The Truth about Kitchens and Granite

Have you noticed the increasingly large amount of people that pick granite as a kitchen material? There is a good reason why granite keeps on appearing in our kitchens and this mainly has something to do with the quality of the material and the wide variety of choices.

Kitchens and granite are often mentioned in the same sentence when it comes to kitchen remodeling, because the majority of people enjoy the good qualities that granite provides to them. The most popular uses for granite in kitchens are kitchen worktops or countertops, but they are also used as a kitchen backsplash.

Granite is an extremely strong material due to the fact it has been formed by mother earth, so it is not made by man. Granite has been in the earth for many years before it is collected and shipped off to factories to make custom granite kitchen products. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the materials is quite rare, it will cost you quite a bit and this can seriously increase the cost of a remodel.

Another reason why kitchens and granite go hand-in-hand is the heat protection this material has. For example, you can easily place a hot pan on your granite countertop, because granite can take a serious amount of heat.

Granite also fits many different styles of kitchens, this is because the material itself is quite versatile in color and finish. You can easily find the standard grey granite, but also red, green, blue and even pink granite for your kitchen countertops. The color can affect the price somewhat, but the location where the granite was collected will often be the main denominator when it comes to price. Some types of granite are extremely rare and this definitely reflects in the price of the end product.

However, given the fact that granite is becoming increasingly more popular in kitchens, and the fact that it is slowly replacing hardwood and vinyl, it can somewhat be seen in the pricing. Some companies will also offer you lower priced options that lean close towards granite, but are not actually granite. This does not mean that all these stones are of lesser quality, but you will have to be wary for cheaper and less durable materials. Some budget stones are just as durable as granite though, so you do not always have to spend top dollar to get the same durability.

Have you ever considered granite in your kitchen? Or are you wondering how granite looks in modern or traditional kitchens? Explore our kitchen designs with great examples of how granite is used and consider if it might be a solution for you.
