The Advantages of Modern Kitchens

Did you ever wonder about the design possibilities of modern kitchens? There are so many types of cabinets, finishes and even wall decorations that can make your modern kitchen stand out and give your home a fresh feel.

One of the most common materials used in modern kitchens is glass. It gives the whole room a sleek and streamlined feel. You can also take many different directions with glass, for example glass countertops, glass doors for your kitchen cabinets and so much more.

Of course, you can also go for other materials such as granite or marble. They are a lot heavier and sometimes more expensive, depending on where you get them.

When talking about modern kitchens, we also need to have a thorough look at color. Modern kitchens have a sterile and clean look. For this reason, most modern kitchens are white. Although, this can provide some problems long term. White can stain very quickly and might need a bit more maintenance than usual.

However, modern kitchens can also go with a more drastic color, for example black. Do take into account that black is not suited for small kitchens. When you decide to use black in a small kitchen, it makes the room look a lot smaller. This is something you really want to avoid when you already have a tiny kitchen.

Want to avoid splash-back in your kitchen? You could install a nice red glass splash-back panel. This is easier to clean than tiles, where the dirt and grime gets stuck. If you are still set on tile behind the cooker, it is better to choose a larger tile. They are generally easier to clean and give your kitchen the modern feel you are striving for. There is also an option where you don’t have to use tiles at all. You could use the wall space fully and incorporate build-in cupboards and maybe even your fridge. Or maybe you can add your oven or microwave into it? The possibilities are endless.

If you have your dining area in your kitchen, you’ll also have to buy a modern table and chairs to go with it. The majority of modern furniture can be quite pricy, but you can always go bargain hunting on eBay. A glass table does not look to bad in a modern kitchen, but you can also go with a plastic alternative. Plastic does not need to look cheap, because there are many processed versions with various finishes that create a beautiful end result.

Wood is not a popular choice for the modern kitchen, but it’s not impossible. The type of wood you’ll be using is also very dependent on the color of your walls. If you are going with light walls, then a lightly colored oak will serve you well. If you’re going a bit darker, you might benefit from teak. However, it is really difficult to create a modern feel with wood, because wood is considered warm and soft, while modern needs sleek and sterile.
