Many people forget about the kitchen layout when they plan their kitchen remodel. They often think about the new appliances they will buy, the kitchen island that will finally be implemented and even the materials they are going to use. Unfortunately, many forget about kitchen layout and end up with space problems. In order to avoid these types of problems in the future, it is definitely worth considering mapping a new kitchen layout in advance.

There are many different types of kitchen layouts, the most common are the one-wall kitchen, the galley kitchen, the u-shaped kitchen, g-shaped kitchen and l-shaped kitchen.

The one-wall kitchen is perfect for people that do not have a lot of room to work with, or for those that like to have a nice spacious kitchen with lots of room. The only downside to this layout is a lack of functional room. The fridge and range usually take up a lot of room, leaving you with little functional space, however, if you have a long wall it should not be that much of a problem.

Galley kitchens are very suited for people that love functionality. The galley kitchen layout uses every part of the room efficiently and can easily feed a large family, more even, most professional kitchens will use the galley layout due to its functional advantages. Galley kitchens can be quite difficult to implement if you have little room and it will mostly leave just enough room to walk. Despite the lack of kitchen room, many people opt for this layout for its extra functionality.

The u-shaped kitchen layout is mainly meant for one cook and they are quite common in most households. This kitchen layout is also fairly open, so you will have more than enough walking space. There is a downside to the u-shaped kitchen though, since it is not possible to incorporate a dining table. If you have a separate dining room, than the u-shaped kitchen will be perfect for you.

Less common but still popular is the G-shaped kitchen. The G-shaped kitchen is mainly meant for people that do not have a lot of space in their kitchen, but still want it to be as functional as possible. The G-shaped kitchen uses every inch of space, leaving you with enough room to implement a built-in oven or other kitchen appliances. The only downside to the G-shaped kitchen layout is that it leaves no room for an open design. This G-shaped kitchen layout will separate your kitchen from the rest of the house completely, but it will save loads of room if you don’t have a lot of space to work with.

Last but not least there is the L-shaped kitchen layout. This is probably one of the most popular kitchen layouts out there, especially for apartments. The L-shaped kitchen layout uses two adjacent walls and the functional space of this kitchen layout is subject to the length of your walls. The L-shaped kitchen layout provides enough room for an open kitchen design, but offers less functionality than the galley kitchen.
