If you are looking for something that is original and that can easily be applied in your kitchen, why not choose a kitchen herb garden? Creating your kitchen herb garden is a lot easier than you might think and the maintenance of it is also quite minimal. Let us discover how to create your very own kitchen herb garden and which herbs you should pick!

First of all, you hardly need anything to create your own kitchen herb garden. The only thing you need is a windowsill, some sunlight and a kitchen window. The following herbs do not need any special lighting and require minimal maintenance.

Basil is one of the herbs that cannot be missing from your kitchen herb garden. You can start growing them indoors from seeds, just make sure that your basil gets enough sunlight and warmth. If your kitchen window is properly isolated and located at the south-side of your home, you have nothing to worry about.

There are also herbs you can grow all year long, bay for example. As long as you make sure that there is enough ventilation in your kitchen and that your bay has enough room, then it will thrive no matter the season.

People that do not have sufficient light in their kitchen, can still enjoy their own kitchen herb garden. Chervil is one of those herbs that does not need a lot of light, but you do need to make sure that the room is warm enough. Temperatures between 65° F and 70° F are perfect to grow Chervil. Once you make sure that your kitchen environment is suitable, you will be able to enjoy your chervil in soups and as garnish.

Another good herb to add to your personal kitchen herb garden is oregano. Even though this herb is mainly grown outside, you can also grow it in your herb kitchen. When you decide to grow some delicious oregano, make sure that there is sufficient sunlight. Preferably place the herb near a south-facing window.

What would your own kitchen herb garden be without some parsley? This delicious herb is easy to grow, but does need a considerable amount of sunlight as well. It is not impossible to grow when standing on a windowsill facing west or east, but it is still best to place your parsley near a south window.

Rosemary is another good herb for your kitchen herb garden. Simply get a cutting of rosemary and keep it in a moist mixture until the Rosemary has a root. Just like all other herbs that were mentioned in this article, you will need sufficient sunlight for Rosemary to thrive.

The herb that is often forgotten for our indoor kitchen herb gardens is sage, this is a shame because sage is incredibly easy to grow indoors. The only thing that sage needs is sunlight, just like other herbs, however, sage tolerates dry environments more than other herbs and is therefore very suited for an indoor kitchen herb garden.
